Bank Indonesia (BI) has once again been awarded the Best Central Bank of the Year at the Global Islamic Finance Award (GIFA) XIV 2024, held in the Maldives on Tuesday (17/9/2024).

According to an official statement from BI through BI Assistant Governor Erwin Haryono on Thursday (19/9/2024), this is the third time BI has received the best central bank accolade from GIFA, after 2018 and 2022.

GIFA is claimed to be a globally recognized award organized by Edbiz Corporation, an international research institution that honors individuals, companies, and government bodies for their significant contributions to the advancement of Islamic economics and finance.

The award is given to those who meet three key criteria: being a pioneer in developing Islamic finance ideas, innovations, or policies; implementing internationally-scaled programs, policies, or projects aligned with global standards; and developing quality products and services that have gained widespread recognition.

BI Governor Perry Warjiyo stated that this award is a tangible testament to BI's commitment to promoting the development of Islamic economics and finance, strengthening Indonesia's position as a global center for Islamic economy.

GIFA Chairman Professor Humayon Dar PhD noted that BI has made a significant contribution as a catalyst for the development of the international Islamic economy and finance.

In Indonesia, BI has focused on developing the Islamic economy and finance, particularly in the halal value chain ecosystem, Islamic finance, and the implementation of the halal lifestyle.

At the global level, BI has played a role and held leadership positions in Islamic cooperation forums, with the BI Governor appointed as the Chairman of the Islamic Financial Services Board (IFSB) Executive Committee and the Chairman of the International Islamic Liquidity Management (IILM) Governing Board.
